KCI Airport Reports July Traffic

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that Kansas City International Airport recorded 979,631 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in July, which represents a slight decrease of just 0.4 percent from July 2008. Passenger boardings at KCI were down 4.8 percent, with a total of 492,931 during July. For the year to date, boardings at KCI totaled 2,843,329, a decrease of 14.1 percent from the same period last year.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for July was 211. Service was offered to 48 nonstop markets. There was an average of 40,916 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day, down 8.3 percent from last year.

“The string of substantial traffic declines appears to have ended at KCI,” said Director of Aviation Mark VanLoh. “The region’s airlines are selectively reinstating flights and are choosing to serve the region through Kansas City. In fact, future schedules show KCI seat capacity rebounding at a greater rate than at St. Louis, Des Moines, Wichita and Omaha.”

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were down 24.6 percent in July. For the year to date, air cargo at KCI is down 25.1 percent from the same period last year. Air freight handled at KCI during July amounted to over 15 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year decrease of 24.7 percent. Air mail for July was down 24.2 percent from July 2008. The all-cargo carriers reported 4 daily departures for July.
