The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 924,696 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in April, a 5.2 percent increase from April 2016. April passenger boardings were up 5.8 percent, with a total of 463,940. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 3,480,570, up 5.9 percent. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 1,738,665 up 6.0 percent.
“Last month was the busiest April at KCI since 2001, the third busiest April in our facility’s 45 year history, and marked the 36th consecutive month of year over year passenger gains at KCI,” said Kansas City Director of Aviation Pat Klein. “Year to date passenger growth is 5.9 percent over 2016, which is a testament to the strength of the region and the population’s high propensity to travel.”
Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were down 7.1 percent in April with a total of 15.9 million pounds handled. Year to date, 66.4 million pounds have been handled, down 2.5 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during April amounted to 15.0 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year decrease of 10.6 percent. Year to date, air freight is down 4.2 percent with a total of 63.5 million pounds handled. Air mail for April was up 193.3 percent from April 2016 with 879,439 pounds handled. Air mail is up 64.1 percent year to date with 2,851,333 pounds handled.
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for April 2017 was 169. Service was offered to 46 nonstop markets. There was an average of 40,197 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported 6 daily departures for April.
