The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that total October passenger traffic at Kansas City International Airport was up 6.2 percent from 2013 figures, with 927,919 passengers arriving and departing through its gates during the month. During October, passenger boardings at KCI were up 5.8 percent, with a total of 463,157. For the year to date, boardings at KCI totaled 4,247,787, an increase of 2.9 percent from the same period last year.
?Our airline partners? commitment to the Kansas City market is evidenced by the new service they are adding at KCI,? said Kansas City Director of Aviation Mark VanLoh. ?Spirit Airlines began flying here earlier this year and regional carrier SeaPort just added service to Great Bend, Kansas. American will add new nonstop service to Miami and Southwest will add daily nonstop service to Ft. Myers in March and New York - LaGuardia in April. These additions, plus a second frequency to Seattle by Alaska Airlines, have set the stage for a banner year of air service at KCI in 2015.?
Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were down 0.4 percent in October with a total of 17.6 million pounds handled. Air freight handled at KCI during October amounted to 17.2 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year decrease of 6.2 percent. Air mail for October was down 21.8 percent from October 2013 with 382,762 pounds handled. The all-cargo carriers reported 5 daily departures for October.
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for October 2014 was 174. Service was offered to 40 nonstop markets. There was an average of 36,756 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day with almost no change from last year.
